Hakuba Access Guide - Arrival at Chubu
Airport
|
Chubu Airport is Nagoya's main entry point. It is know by
several names including Centrair and Chubu
Kokusai
Kuko. It is located about 50km south of Nagoya. It is also one
of the few privately run airports in Japan, and is something of
a tourist spot in itself, as it has a spa, shopping mall and a
sky deck that gives great views over the airport and surrounding
ocean.
It is almost brand new and is situated on a man made island.
Access is generally by the Meitetsu Train Line that runs from
the Airport to Central Nagoya and Gifu. Beware that not all
trains go to Nagoya Station, so check before boarding. Also note
that JR rail passes are not valid on the Meitetsu Line.
Real Time Flight information etc is available at the Centrair
website at

Quarantine >>> Passport Control >>> Baggage Claim >>>
Plant and Animal Quarantine >>> Customs Inspections |
Quarantine Procedures vary depending on the
global state of infectious diseases. During the SARS and Swine
Flu outbreak, initial screening was done on board flights,
followed by secondary screening using thermal imaging.
Passport Control is divided into 3 sections.
There are counters for Japanese Nationals, Foreign Residents,
and Temporary visitors. All non-Japanese nationals are
photographed and fingerprinted on entry. You require a passport
and an disembarkation card. Immigration in Japan is handled by
the ministry of Justice
To Claim Baggage, check the screen for the
carousel assigned to your flight.
If you are bringing in plants or animals you must proceed to the
Plant and Animal Quarantine Counter, if not you
head to Customs inspections.
All passengers must submit a customs declaration
form for accompanied and unaccompanied luggage. If you exceed
the duty few allowances for any products they must be declared.
Once you have clear customs you are free to move to the arrival
lobby and commence your trip to Hakuba. |
