Hakuba Access Guide - Arrival at Narita Airport
Japan's main gateway is Narita International Airport. It handles well over half of all international flights into Japan and is the 2nd busiest airport in Japan behind Tokyo's domestic airport at Haneda. Narita airport has had a troubled history, with continuing land battles with local farmers having delayed development. Wide bodied jets still only have one runway for take off and landings, while smaller planes can use the shorter number 2 runway.

Narita Airport is located about 60km east of Tokyo and it takes a minimum of 1 hour to get into central Tokyo. Those arriving one evening flights should consider taking the direct bus to Hakuba as it is difficult to make connections via public transport.

There are two main terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 has North and South wings with different check counters.

Terminal 1 North hosts Aeroflot, Aero Mexico, Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Continental, Delta, KLM, Korean Air, Northwest, and Virgin.

Terminal 1 South has Air Canada, Air china, ANA, Asiana, Austria, Eva, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore, Swiss, Thai International, Turkish, and United Airlines

Terminal 2 is home to Air India, Air New Zealand, American, Cathay Pacific, China, China Eastern, China Southern, Finnair, Garuda, JAL, Jetstar, Malaysia, and Qantas Airlines.

Entry procedures are the same at all terminals.

All passengers must submit a customs declaration form for accompanied and unaccompanied luggage. If you exceed the duty few allowances for any products they must be declared.

Once you have clear customs you are free to move to the arrival lobby and commence your trip to Hakuba.
